The ACC Network on Rural Development and Food Security brings together main development partners for focused and coordinated action at the country level.

The ACC Network is a mechanism for World Food Summit follow-up and aims to:

Established in April 1997 by the United Nations Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC), the ACC Network has been endorsed and supported by the UN Secretary-General and the Heads of 20 UN organizations. It is jointly managed by FAO and IFAD, in close cooperation with WFP.

At the country level, the ACC Network consists of national Thematic Groups working on rural development and food security within the UN Resident Coordinator System. At the international level, these national Thematic Groups are supported by a network of interested UN organizations and associated international and regional NGOs.

As of January 2002, 70 national Thematic Groups were established and 13 Thematic Groups were in their initial stages of development in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Near East. Efforts are now underway to promote the establishment of such Thematic Groups in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Thematic Groups are working on specific themes to combat rural poverty and ensure food for all.

Many Thematic Groups are also actively engaged in supporting UN/FAO initiatives:
