The World Food Summit

The ACC network will serve as a follow-up mechanism to the Rome Declaration on World Food Security and the World Food Summit Plan of Action. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) called the Summit in response to widespread undernutrition and growing concern about the capacity of agriculture to meet future food needs. Held in Rome from 13-17 November 1996, the Summit was attended by world leaders who renewed global commitment to the fight against hunger. Extensive documentation of Summit can be found at the World Food Summit Web site.

It includes:

Part One of the Report of the World Food Summit (Part Two, containing the statements delivered at the Summit, will be available in coming months)
the Rome Declaration on World Food Security and World Food Summit Plan of Action, adopted by the Summit on 13 November 1996, and published in the Appendix to the Report.
A series of 15 technical background papers, prepared by FAO alone or in collaboration with other international organizations, which underpinned the World Food Summit and its preparatory process. Also available here are other Summit documents relating to the Summit and food security bibliographies.

IFADEVAL

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is responsible for managing the monitoring and evaluation component of the ACC Network. Its Office of Evaluation and Studies (OE) has launched a Web site, IFADEVAL which contains parts of the OE's Evaluation Knowledge System, (EKSYST), designed to generate, store and share information gained through evaluations of anti-poverty projects and programmes. IFADEVAL, which is still experimental and currently being tested, also hosts Evaluation Fora, which provide an opportunity for all concerned to exchange views and ideas, and become acquainted with each other's experiences in the field of rural poverty alleviation. The fora are:

a moderated General Evaluation Forum (EVALFORUM), which is open to a large audience of members of the development community. Contributions regarding a wide range of themes relevant to rural development and food security can be made in the form of comments, papers or articles.
a Specialized Evaluation Forum, The ACC Evaluation Knowledge WEB (EVAK), which is moderated and promotes an exchange of views and ideas on related topics. It is open to members of the ACC Network on Rural Development and Food Security

Users are encouraged to participate in the further development of the knowledge base by joining the fora.
