Ecuador - supporting information systems for food security assessment

In Ecuador, the Rural Development and Food Security Network (Red de Desarrollo Rural y Seguridad Alimentaria (REDERSA) comprises two active theme groups: one on rural development, (chaired by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture-Instituto Interamericano de Cooperacíon para la Agricultura -IICA, and one on food security (chaired by the FAO Representation). The REDERSA network has consolidated a draft proposal for a national strategy on food security which incorporates contributions from various stakeholders - ranging from indigenous people organizations to members of Parliament. In addition, the Group has been supporting the implementation of a new information system for assessing food security into the national office for planning.
