Ghana: civil society will discuss its participation in the formulation of national food security policies with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture
On the 10th and 11th of December 2002, a seminar, organised by the NGO Ghana Action-Aid, will bring together 50 representatives from Civil Society Organisations, researchers and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture to examine how civil society could get more involved in the formulation of national policies on agriculture and food security.
This initiative aims to continue the progress made at a workshop on the follow-up of the World Food Summit: five years later, during which a plan for the follow-up of the Summit at the national level was adopted and a Committee on Food Security in Ghana, consisting of 15 Civil Society Organisations was formed.
The Network Secretariat will inform you, in its next update, of the main outcomes of this workshop, as well as those of the regional meeting of the International Planning Committee for the International NGO/CSO forum on food sovereignty, that will also take place at the end of January 2003 in Accra. The International NGO/CSO forum on food sovereignty was a parallel event at the World Food Summit: five years later in June 2002.
