As a follow-up to the International Conference on Finance for Development the UN General Assembly has set the date for the High-Level Dialogue (HLD) on Financing and Development for 29-30 October 2003, in New York under the theme "The Monterrey Consensus: status of the implementation and tasks ahead."

The two-day event where heads of state will have the opportunity to participate in the various debates concerning financial and development issues, will be comprised of two sets of ministerial level round tables. Each table will have no more than 35 representatives from governments and observer states, civil society, private sector and intergovernmental and specialized agencies in order to be able to participate actively in the discussions. The heads of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization and heads of the African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank and ten co-chairs designated by the regional groups will be the co-chairs.

A short plenary will be held on the second day to hear statements from major institutional stakeholders. Followed by an interactive dialogue in which Agencies are invited to participate.

Every year in the fall, the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly considers on its agenda various Financing for Development Issues such as external debt crisis, development and financial systems.
