The leaders of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) explore possible cooperation between the G8 and Africa
Taking advantage of their presence in Rome during the
World Food Summit: five years later, from 10 to 13 June 2002, the leaders of 15 African countries that make up the
New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) began preparations for the meeting, which will take place from 26 to 28 June in Kananaskis, Canada. During this meeting, the possibilities of cooperation between the G8 and Africa will be debated.
The NEPAD, founded in July 2001, represents the commitment by the African leaders with the African people and with the international community to ensure the sustainable development of the continent.
The FAO has already offered its support to the initiative, cooperating with the Managing Committee and the Ministries of Agriculture to translate the governmental policy strategies of the African heads of state into specific programmes within the agricultural sector that will become fundable projects at the regional and national levels.
