The concept of "stakeholder" and conflict management
In the literature concerning participation in development during the last few years, the term "stakeholder" has frequently appeared. This word, broad in meaning, is commonly associated with "a person who has a vested interest in a situation" or "who carries out one or more functions within a system." In the field of sustainable development, we often refer to a "user and administrator of natural resources."
This document, prepared by Ricardo Ramírez for the
International Development Research Center, examines the semantics of the concept and its historical evolution, relating the analysis of stakeholders to conflict management. A series of proposals are made, indicating how to apply this perspective on participation in order to resolve conflict.
"The analysis of stakeholders and conflict management" is part of the publication "Cultivate peace. Conflict and collaboration in the management of natural resources".
