The Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations has published an independent study implemented by "Consensus Building Institute" which analyses the development, strengths and weaknesses of multi-stakeholder dialogue taking place normally in international conferences of the United Nations since the establishment in 1997 by the Commission on Sustainable Development, created as a follow-up to the Rio World Summit on the Environment and Development in 1992.
