Action plan and Declaration of World Summit on the Information Society is shaped
Over 1500 participants representing 146 Members States, various international agencies and civil society institutions and the private sector gathered in Geneva to celebrate the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee (Prep-Com-2) of the
World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) from 17-28 February, 2003.
Two working documents were produced for a draft declaration and action plan as part of the preparatory activities for the WSIS. This Summit will be held in two parts: the first from 10-12 December 2003 in Geneva and the second from 16-18 November 2005 in Tunisia.
During Prep-Com-2, the FAO gave its support to the WSIS and recommended that special attention be given to the implications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the achievement of the goals set at the
World Food Summit, the needs of rural communities and the benefits of ICT in the fight against poverty and food insecurity.
