Brazil: an inter-agency meeting on human rights emphasizes the right to food for all people
For the visit to the country by the
High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, several agencies of the United Nations held a meeting last 30 January on the theme of human rights. The objective was to provide information to Robinson on the issues related to human rights with which each agency is working in the country in view of the meetings programmed by the High Commissioner with the President of the Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other authorities.
The FAO representative, José Tubino, reported on the activities that his office is carrying out, with the support of the civil society, in matters of human rights to food. Robinson, who showed intense interest in the matter, announced that an official of the High Commissioner is meeting in Brazil with different NGOs and organizations from civil society on this theme. The subject has been incorporated in the agenda of the Brazilian Thematic Group on Food Security.
