Bernard Conyers prizes information on rural development

Until 15 May 2002, all those who wish to present their new ideas on rural development may enter their work for the Bernard Conyers prize. The Arkleton Trust, with this donation of 8000 sterling pounds, seeks to encourage the spread of information related to the themes of rural development, with the ultimate aim of distributing material which would otherwise remain unknown among those who work in the field without the ability to publicize their own experiences and ideas on development. The selection committee especially invites new approaches to rural development, ideas on how the small-scale projects can be integrated with long-term programmes and methodologies of self-learning. The candidate works should already be in the publication phase at the time of presentation. Valid formats include paper (book, pamphlet) but the use of new media such as video and Internet are particularly encouraged. People from anywhere in the world are welcome to participate, though participants from developing countries and from the least-rich zones of Europe will be favoured. Individual works will be receive preference over those prepared by organizations and co-operatives.

This initiative has a profile similar to that of the Boerma Award, with which the FAO biennially rewards the best journalist works aimed at calling attention to the problem of hunger in the world.
