"An agenda for people. The UNFPA through three decades"
"An agenda for people" reviews the 30 years of activity of the United Nations Population Fund. This publication by the New York University Press examines the progress made since 1972 on the issue of world population following the principles laid out by the international conferences of Bucharest (1974), Mexico City (1984) and Cairo (1994).
The links between development and control of world growth having been established, one of the priorities for the United Nations Population Fund has been to create associations to promote cooperation among the different partners in development that face problems such as AIDS, the demographic explosion in the third world, the surge in migratory movements, and issues related to refugees.
"Broadening the associations" is in fact the title of the chapter by Bradaman Weerakoon (consultant of UNFPA in Sri Lanka), explaining how the NGOs, civil society, the private sector and the UN agencies should be involved in facing the above-mentioned problems, and describing the coordination mechanisms that should be established.
