The
UN System Extranet is a shared UN intranet - an Internet portal for UN staff - that enables
participating organizations and entities within the UN System to access each other's electronic resources.
The UN System Extranet was created in response to a desire by UN senior managers to enable UN staff to share information of mutual interest. Content, tools and applications that were previously only accessible from intranets in the individual UN agencies or organizations are now accessible to staff throughout the entire UN system, including headquarters, regional, subregional and liaison offices.
The UN System Extranet was recently expanded and provides access to the following resources:
- Directory of Senior UN Officials
- UN System Chart (including printable html and pdf formats)
- UN System locator (alphabetic index of websites of the United Nations System)
- UN "News"
- UN Map and Cartographic Resources
- UN Multilingual Terminology Database (including 70,000 entries in six official languages, daily updates)
