Thematic Groups - December 2002

Laos: The Thematic Group asks the government for a series of seminars to explain the national policies and priorities within the sphere of rural development

Representatives of 22 organizations that participated last 15 November in the meeting of the Thematic Group on rural development and food security in Laos agreed to ask the government for a series of seminars to identify the priorities and strategic course within the sphere of rural development. "Governmental policies and priorities in rural development", "Allocation of forest lands (including the theme of stabilization of the alternate crop)" and "Local planning" were the titles agreed upon as proposed by the governmental agencies that worked on these themes.

"This," explained the co-ordinator of the Thematic Group in Laos, "arises from a strategy of sensitizing governmental agencies to the need of involving the other development partners in activities of rural development" by means of platforms such as the one offered by the Thematic Groups of the Network.
