The Philippines: The Thematic Group organizes training workshops on planning for food security

The Philippine's Thematic Group organized three training workshops on planning for food security in 2002. The workshops were attended by experts from FAO, UNDP and the Departments of Agriculture and Agrarian reform. The next training workshop is planned for mid-February and will discuss the priority areas identified by the new Secretary of the Department of Agriculture.

The national Thematic Group of the UN System Network on Rural Development and Food Security is also working closely with the Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Mapping System (FIVIMS) technical working group in order to complement each other's activities and minimize overlapping.
