Ecuador: Coordinating Board of Food Security and Rural Development celebrate fourth meeting
The Coordinating Board of Food Security and Rural Development, led by the FAO Representation in Ecuador held its fourth meeting last 26 February with the participation of the most prominent cooperation institutions in the country.
One of the topics discussed during the meeting was the current situation of the country's Food Security Law. The draft proposal was handed-in to Parliament during the first days of February and its approval is expected in a short period of time. Meanwhile, the Coordinating Board requested to reactivate the National Committee on Food Security while the law gets approved.
The Agriculture Minister is expected to attend the next meeting during which the Coordinating Board is planning to express its support to the ministry's policies to achieve Food Security and Rural Development in Ecuador. In addition, during the next meeting representatives from FAO and the
World Food Program will present a proposal containing indicators that will enable the Coordinating Board, Government and Civil Society to learn about the evolution of the measures taken and the results reached to achieve food security.
Representatives of the Network of Projects related to Food Security (REDPESA) reported the existence of the Website
www.ecuamapalimentaria.info which contains important information related to Ecuador's food security.
Finally, the Coordinating Board is currently working on the preparation of a National Water Seminar based on the reports produced by the
3° World Water Forum.
